Hub and his hobbies

As walk into the store, Hub sees IT standing there. With longing in his eyes, he declares... 'Linda!!! This is just what I need!'

Dragging IT to the car, he throws the much needed golf bag and clubs into the trunk.

At home he tells me...'You know this will be great exercise!'

Well, it's now been over a week and IT is still laying horizontally on the livingroom floor.

"Soooo, just when are you planning on actually using IT?"

'Just as soon as I find somebody to play with.'

"Isn't it a sport that you can do by yourself?"

'Well ya...but a group would be a lot more fun.'

"You know, I was just thinking"...

'Please don't!'

"I could always get my own clubs and ohhhh..ohhhh we could have matching outfits...same colour, pattern and hats...

fun hats!"

While desperately looking for his phone, I have another, brilliant idea!

"And I could drive the golf cart!"

After quickly making a few calls Hub grabs his clubs and makes his exit...'The boys and I are going out for a few quick rounds.'

"I thought he'd never leave! Oh, and I better remember to pick up one of those hats, just in case he does want me to golf with him!"

Hubs trip

‘Where’s the black suitcase Linda?’ yells Hub from second floor bedroom. I hear the door shut and 10 minutes later I hear it open again... ‘Where’s my travel kit?’

This is becoming a hourly thing this week...like where’s the whateverrrr or, have you seen the thingy-ma-bob?

You see Hub’s getting ready to leave on a scuba dive trip. You’d think diving would be a daily thing as we live in Mexico, right? Wrong! We live on the Pacific side and for some reason Hub likes to be able to see and swim in warm water...go figure! So he's getting ready to go to Cozumel.

I hear the upstairs door open again... ‘You do realize I only have one swim suit that fits, right?’

“And that concerns because????”

Standing at the top of the stairs he demonstrates while holding an arm full of clothes...‘Well, this one’s too big...this one’s too small...and this one’s...’

“oh oh ohhhh let me guess...that one’s juuuuust right, Goldilocks!”

Coming down the stairs I hear...‘Don’t be a smart ass woman! I've got one day left before we leave.’

“When you say WE, you do mean as in you and the cab driver right?”

‘Well, I called and reminded him to be here at 3.30AM.

Good!

But if he’s not here, you get to drive me out to the airport,’ he says with great excitement.

Now, normally sending Hub off on one of his trips is a good thing, but having to drive out to the airport, hell any airport for that matter, in the middle of the night is not my idea of a good time. “When did you call him last?”

‘Yesterday.’

“Maybe you should give him another reminder today...and maybe every hour to get an update.”

So it's shove off day! 2 in the morning. I hear Hub doing his last minute check for an hour and then dragging everything out to the garage.

I get up, go out and see him standing in the middle of the street.

He decides to message the driver. No answer. He tries again. No answer..and then, in the dead of the night I hear it...

‘Linda!!!! Roadtrip!’ .

Did I mention I really hate driving to the airport and really hate doing it at 3.30 in the frigg’n morning.

Diving vs shopping

First let me say, Hub is an excellent diver, a scuba diving instructor actually. He's very methodical and patient with all his students...and then he tried to get me involved.

‘Come on, it'll be great.Just imagine it ..underwater ...together...’ as he coo's in my ear.

“I can't hear you.”

Trying another tactic he suggests...

‘How ‘bout we go shopping?’

“It's a miracle...my hearing is back!

Now with great calm he informs me...‘So, the gear can be all colour co-ordinated, and in great, florescent colours!’

“Ohhh you're serious? Me...in a dive shop? Forget it Cousteau. I'm sooo outta here!”

Calmly he grabs my arm...‘At least try it once. You might even like it.’

And so he gathers up his equipment and I get into the gear at the neighbours pool...

Going thru a checklist he asks...

‘Fins feel ok?’

“They’ll do.”

Looking at me softly in the eyes he advises me...‘Now, because you are very buoyant you’ll have to wear these extra weights.’

“You better not be telling me what I think you’re telling me!!!!”

Already in his gear he jumps back for safety...‘Of course not! Now, take the mask and spit into it.’

“Ewwww that's just disgusting. You do it.”

Fine. Give me that mask...*He spits into the mask and hands it back to me* Now put it on.’

“This doesn’t seem very hygienic to me, fella.”

‘Just do it.

So, being a good sport and knowing if I didn’t do it I would spend the next 20 years hearing how I chickened out...I, Linda, being of sound mind, gathered up all my courage and went to the bottom of the pool....for 45 seconds...

...and came up screaming...after I got the mouth piece thingy outta my mouth I informed the neighbourhood “I’m soooo outta here Cousteau...and get this damn thing off me!”

As so, that was 20 years ago. My first and last scuba diving experience. Hub still dives, whenever he can and he still thoroughly enjoys it.

And I take pride in the fact that I still thoroughly like to shop.
