The Weather

Image result for 5am alarm clock

Hearing the alarm I know it's 5.35am. The time Hub walks the dog.

In the dark he heads down the stairs with the canine hot on his heels.

Flipping on the light and I hear the morning greeting...'OMG Linda!'

Pulling the quilt over my head it continues...

'It's 58F!'

Many moons ago when we married, I never knew he had this skill.
You see, I really don't care what the temperature is when it's dark, in the morning!

And he continues...'High of only 75...'

I place the pillow over my head and recall all our non retired friends saying how great it would be to sleep in...not have to set an alarm clock anymore...to relax!

Hub moves to the bottom of the stairs and shouts up...'with 80% humidity.'

Slamming the pillow across the bed I make my way downstairs, blinded by all the house lights he's turned on.

'OMG woman! You don't look good. Didn't sleep well?'

Making myself a hot tea I wait for it...the further forecast...three...two...one...

'So they've done it again! Pushed the hot weather back another couple of days! Can you imagine...they're calling for a cold front.'

Taking my hot tea to the couch I tell myself it's nice that he has a hobby. Personally I would have liked the hobby at a reasonable hour... DAYLIGHT!

The A/C experience

We Canadians are a hearty bunch.

We enjoy four seasons each year, and have learned just what has to be done before a season actually arrives.
For example, in Ontario, Hub would make a game of how long he could leave the air conditioner in the window, before he had to take it out for winter!

Oct would come and go and he wouldn’t bite.

The cold winds of November would arrive and still I would hear, ‘there’s plenty of time.’

December 1st would sneak up on him and again... ‘Don’t worry!’ as he got out his shovels and snow blower, just to be ready.

But then the first major snowfall would arrive, and I would hear Hub yelling as he runs down the hall... ‘Linda! Get the kid! It’s time!’

And so, father and son would get dressed for the Arctic, grab the ladders and tools, and proceed to squeeeeeze out the A/C, then put the window back in, all before a foot of snow made it back into the house.

It was the same plan only in reverse, when they had to put the A/C back IN, except the weather would have to reach the temperature of 'how as hell', at which point Hub would yell down the stairs... ‘Linda! Get the kid! It’s A/C time!’

Flash forward to Mazatlan, where there’s no snow and no kid to help Hub.

Sweating from every pore in my body I ask Hub... “Sooooo, got any plans as to when the A/C will be turned on this year?”

Standing in his shorts, he informs me...‘I have to call the A/C guy to clean it first.’

“Are you frigg'n kidding me??? The temp is reading 94F in the shade!”

Eyeing me, he reluctantly makes the call.

After watching the guys work on three units and finish in 3 hrs....

I head towards one of the A/C remotes and Hub blocks my way and tells me...‘Don’t touch it yet!!!’

“Huh?”

‘The rainy season is coming soon, and that means I have to spray the place for scorpions now.’

Reaching for a bucket I tell him...“I’m sure they’re already fried, in this heat,” as I drop the pail of water over my head.

Raising his finger to make a point he tells me...‘Listen! It will take a few days to get the smell out of the house...so, NO A/C till then!’

Muttering to myself I go outside, lay down in the shade, and raise my own finger...in a salute in protest.

Linda, Hubby and weather.

In Hamilton, Ontario, Canada October 2010 it was cold, dull and wet. A typical Canadian fall..a time of year when children wear snow suits over their Halloween costumes and boots!

We couldn’t wait to leave for the tropical weather of Mazatlan, Mexico.

Well, November 2010 arrived and we were out of there!! No more snow, sleet and cold weather for this duo in their retirement years. We needed heat!

Jan 2011 – coldest record in 55 years! (We’re 55...coincidence???) and it lasted right through the spring.

Apr 2011 – Hub and I flew back to Canada, to be there for the birth of our second Gbaby. All went well with the birth. The day we arrived it was raining and it turned out to be the wettest 2 months ever, with about a grand total of 3 days of sun.

June and July 2011 – Back in Maz and it’s hot, humid and fabulous!

Aug 2011 – record rainfall in 35 years! (We been married 36 years and it rained on our wedding day...mmmmm) Okay is somebody trying to tell us something?

Sept 3, 2011 – Still in Maz and guess what....it’s raining!! For weeks now we’ve had nightly thunderstorms....we can handle that. But today it’s been raining ALL day and not just over our casa!!

I have to admit the temperature is around 77F with 98% humidity and I’m finding it cool, but loving it! Put on a pair of jeans, light sweater and I’m good to go. Hub is curled up behind me cursing and reading a book!!!

So the moral of this blog....

If you are in need of cold, wet weather, just give us an invite up to your area. It’s a pretty good guarantee that your weather will change as soon as our feet hit the tarmac.

But if you’re coming to Maz...you might want to check to see if we’re here first.

Just a few thoughts from 2 Canadians living and loving it in Mazatlan.
